It is recognised that one in four people will experience a mental health difficulty at some point in their lives. IAPT was introduced as a way in which people could access talking therapies as close to their home as possible. IAPT seeks to use the least intrusive method of care possible to treat people. This is called a 'Stepped Care' model and means that the person is provided with the most effective, least intensive treatment to meet their needs. The clinician you see initially will explain to you what choices are available for you and why they are considered suitable for you.
